We do not support iLO 3 or older. For the most part, HP has done an excellent job of keeping this experience the same between versions of iLO 4 and beyond.

Please be advised that when we state Administrator below, we are NOT referring to the Administrator user of a Windows installation, but instead the default Administrator user of your HP server’s iLO interface.

For iLO 4 and newer, there are four operations to perform:

  • Factory reset iLO
  • Enable DHCP for iLO
  • Set an Administrator password
  • Send us the Administrator password

Factory reset iLO

  • During boot, press F8 when prompted for iLO or Integrated Lights Out configuration
  • In the iLO configuration tool menu, press Enter on File, and select Set Defaults iLO Factory Reset Selection
  • Press F10 to confirm
  • The server reboots

Enable DHCP for iLO

  • During boot, press F8 when prompted for iLO or Integrated Lights Out configuration
  • In the iLO configuration tool menu, scroll to Network, press Enter, select DNS/DHCP iLO DHCP Setting
  • Set DHCP Enable to ON
  • Press F10 to confirm

Set an Administrator password

  • While still in the configuration tool, scroll to User, press Enter, select Edit
  • Edit the Administrator user iLO Edit Admin User
  • Set the password to a known value
    • Please don’t set the password to a silly long value. Your iLO will be attached to a private network and does not have Internet access, and won’t be brute forced by malicious actors. Additionally, we recommend against the use of “special” characters in the password. If you need assistance with generating a secure alphanumeric password, please use this password generator.
  • Ensure all of the Lights-Out Privileges are set to Yes
  • Press F10 to confirm
  • Save and exit the iLO configuration tool.

Send us the Administrator password

  • In your open provisioning ticket in the client area please share the Administrator password you set for your server’s iLO Administrator user.

That completes setup of your HP server’s iLO prior to shipping to a Dedicated.com datacenter. We look forward to receiving and racking your server!

If you are unable to complete any of these steps, or they do not match your server, or any other problem, please reach out to let us know before shipping as we would much rather assist you with configuring your server properly, versus receiving an improperly configured server that we then need to configure upon arrival on site, which will result in remote hands fees being levied.
