- Factory reset iDRAC
- Enable DHCP for iDRAC
- Photograph the physical information tag with the iDRAC 9 password
Factory reset iDRAC:
- Reboot the server
- Press F2 for System Setup when prompted
- Enter iDRAC Settings
- Select the Factory Reset option near the bottom of the iDRAC menu options
The server will reboot. Wait for iDRAC reset to complete.
Enable DHCP for iDRAC
- Re-enter System Setup, return to iDRAC Settings, select Network Settings.
- For the
Enable DHCP
configuration option, change it from Disabled to Enabled:
- Save and exit iDRAC Settings, save and exit System Setup.
- Pull the information tag out of the front of the server.
- The physical information tag in Dell servers can be in various locations, but is always on the front of the server somewhere. The location may be noted on the large label on the underside of the server’s lid. If not, refer to Dell’s documentation for your specific server model to help locate the tag if you are unable to locate the physical information tag.
- Confirm that the information tag of the server matches the service tag of the motherboard!! The service tag of the motherboard is displayed during boot. Confirm that it matches what’s printed on the server’s physical information tag.
- If the service tag displayed during boot does not match the physical information tag, STOP. The password on the physical information tag will be different from what’s set on the installed motherboard in the server, and not work. You will need to try to reset the password with any of these ideas in Dell’s article about changing the password.
- If you cannot set an iDRAC password, neither will we be able to, and we won’t be able to accept the server for colocation.
- Check both sides of the physical information tag for the iDRAC password:
- In this example, the iDRAC password we need is item #4.
- If uncertain, please feel free to photograph both sides of the physical information tag.
- Please photograph this password, ensure that the text of the photo is fully legible, and attach the photo to your provisioning ticket.
That completes setup of your Dell server’s iDRAC 9 prior to shipping to a Dedicated.com datacenter. We look forward to receiving and racking your server!
